Studying FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping is the most practical way to enter into the bookkeeping or accounting industries.

With AIFT we give you the choice to study on Xero, the most widely used Accounting software for practitioners and small business owners, as well as MYOB.

At AIFT we over this course on either Xero or MYOB making sure that your study is aligned in as much as possible to what employers want in a candidate. This course is also Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) approved with regards to the education requirements for registration as a BAS agent to allow you to

  • Day to day bookkeeping functions such as accounts payable and receivable
  • Completing the Business Activity Statements (BAS)
  • Statutory obligations such as Superannuation and Payroll
  • Building spreadsheets and creating operational reporting such as Profit & Loss, Balance Sheets and Trial Balance
  • Proficient use of Accounting Software including MYOB and Xero from setup to trial balance

Access to the ‘Xero Learn’ platform is included with the course and MYOB Student Edition is available for general (free) download. MYOB & Xero are used to complete some units, access to course materials and assessments.

Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping allows up to 12 months to complete the course.

There is no minimum time frame to complete the course. Students can work through the course at their own pace

Pre-course

Prior to course commencement, students are required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment/questionnaire. 

This quick assessment is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you through your studies.

Modules & Units

The unit assessments and examinations are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted via the AIFT online student portal. 

Accounting unit assessments use either MYOB (student version) or the Xero Learn educational platform.

Examinations are open book, and are comprised of theoretical and practical exercises which can be undertaken from either your home, office, or classroom.

Exams

Tax Practitioners Board Licensing Course units may include an exam component, which needs to be independently supervised. Exams are three-hour, open-book assessments comprising of short answer and multiple-choice questions, very similar in format to the unit assessments.

Exams must be completed within your course duration period. Prior to your exam, you will need to complete and return the Supervisor Nomination Form to Applied Education detailing your supervisor’s information, contact details and the elected date of your assessment.

Exams can be undertaken at any location and time of your choosing, with the only condition being that you have a nominated, independent supervisor present. Your supervisor can be a person of responsibility such as a registered tax agent, member of an accounting professional body, public servant, doctor, nurse, police officer, director, etc. who does not have a close personal or professional relationship with you.

Course Fees and Flexible Payment Plans

- An administration fee of $100 is added for this option
 
- Payment is via direct debit or credit card
 
- Initial $500 deposit is required at the commencement of the course
 
- The remainder to be paid in equal instalments over 3, 6 or 9 months.

Several units in the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping are prerequisites and in some cases actual units from the Diploma of Accounting.

Computer and Internet Requirements
 
The software requirements to ensure the course materials are accessible are as follows:
Latest versions of Word and Adobe Reader are required
Some applications (videos) will require the latest version of Flash-Player
We recommend Google Chrome as an Internet Browser most compatible with the student portal.

The recommended speed to access all learning resources is 4G/ADSL2, though most internet connections are sufficient. Slower connections will suffice for the PDF learning resources; however, for any multimedia content degradation in quality and issues downloading may be experienced. We aim for maximum operational efficiency with our high-quality LMS/SMS however from time to time outages may occur, but these will be attended to as quickly as possible.

Specifically, you will need word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software such as Microsoft Office.

All data files, learning activities and MYOB/XERO software are available to download or access via our student portal.

Mac/iOS:
AIFT uses the Microsoft Windows operating system and we are unable to guarantee or support issues relating to the Mac operating systems.

Learner guides and materials for the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping are included as part of the course at no additional cost.

All course content is accessed via our online student portal, along with additional resources, learning materials and classroom recordings (if applicable).

A hard copy of the learner materials is available. If required, it can also be optionally purchased ($275 full set).

Are you currently working as a bookkeeper or have prior skills and experience?

We can assess these skills and knowledge as credits towards a Certificate IV qualification in Accounting and Bookkeeping. By providing documented evidence and a portfolio of your work to demonstrate your understanding of the learning outcomes in the course. The portfolio often contains files such as payroll and BAS information, along with letters, reports or presentations that you have or currently use on a day to day basis.

Checklists:
RPL is not a short cut, it is often a more complex process than completing the self-paced study and doing the activities. However, you may find that you can obtain credits for 1 or 2 units which can reduce the time required to complete the course.
